You won’t find curated itineraries that require a week off or plane tickets.
Here, you’ll find doable adventures - trips you can take with toddlers, preschoolers, and eventually dogs - inside one weekend or even a single afternoon. We share how we pack, where we go, what worked, and what we’d do differently next time.
You’ll also find a growing archive of notes about daily life: ferries, trail dust, sunrise coffee, and the messy, joyful season of raising little kids outdoors.

We moved to the Peninsula for the slower pace of life and a community we love. Little did I know, it would become our greatest adventure yet.
Our focus is on small adventures - the kind that fit between daycare drop-off and Monday mornings. The kind you can do after dinner on a warm evening, or with a thermos of coffee at sunrise. The kind that teach our kids to love being barefoot in tide pools and buckled in car seats on the way to the mountains.
We started this blog to document what we learn along the way:
how we plan, how we pack, where we go, and the ways it all changes as our kids grow. If we’re doing something new - sleeping in the van with two kids, getting lost on a trail, teaching kids to ski - we’ll tell you the truth about how it went.
I hope this space inspires you to explore the outdoors around you, even if your world feels small right now. Adventure isn’t just a destination.
It’s a lifestyle built quietly, deliberately, one small outing at a time.
Welcome to Barefoot and Buckled.

Eddie was so patient and supportive as our sessions circled back to my fear around money again and again.
Every time I thought I was “over it” we’d come up against a new challenge and the worries of not-enoughness would flood back in. Without Kayla’s rock-solid presence (and lighten the mood level sarcasm) I would have ran back to my 9-5 with my tail between my legs.

I’ve been through so many group programs, coaches, and freebie classes. The marketing approaches were always “my way or the highway” or completely fluff from people who liked to hear themselves talk. Kayla and I got right to business…literally. We skipped the trendy strategy jargon I’m accustomed to and she used her sharp eye to pinpoint my growth opportunities.

I had tried just about every social media strategy you could think of, but nothing ever seemed to stick or gain traction. It wasn’t until I worked with Kayla that I finally understood why they weren’t working in the first place. She helped me completely shift my mindset, which opened the door for the personalized action plan she carefully guided me in creating.
